A Drummer Won My Love

A drummer won my love, both strong and handsome,

I let him take my heart, hold it to ransome.

He quoted from the plays, I thought him clever

I was decieved to think he'd love forever

A ring of glowing gold upon my finger

He placed with tender words, the echoes linger

So many times before this restless pilgrim

had travelled through the land scattering hearts before him

I took a woodland walk to view my future

My troubled mind was calmed amidst this nature

No primrose did I see, I'll not forget it

the yellow bloom is gone , I won't regret it

I sat down by a lake, I gazed into the water

I shook my head in shame to think I had a daughter

To think I had a child with a careless absent father

And I cried all the salt tears that I could gather

A drummer spurned my love, he showed no pity

He makes the sparks to fly around the city

There's many a heart on fire, burning near me

I shall not die for love, he need not fear me
