Sailor Boy

It was early, early all in the spring

When my own lover went to serve the King

The night was dark and the wind was high

That's when I lost my poor sailor boy

Oh Father won't you build me a boat

So on the ocean wide that I may float

To watch the tall ships as they sail by

so I might enquire for my sailor boy

Oh captain, captain come tell me true

Is my own lover there on board with you

What kind of clothes does your lover wear

and what's the colour of your true love's hair

He wears a suit all of the royal blue

and you might know him, his heart is true

HIs hair is gold as the ripening corn

that the wind blows through on a summers morn

You're own true lover , he is not here

on that far island that does not appear

On that far island, as we passed by

that's where we lost your fine sailor boy

So drape my coffin in deepest black

A mrble stone raise at my head and back

and on my gravestone a pure white dove

to tell the world I died for love.
