Eastman Strings

Eastman Strings is a well-established Chinese violin family manufacturer known for using well-seasoned woods, well-conceived traditional designs, and clean workmanship and finishes. This company offers 3/4 size basses that are a little smaller than the Shen 3/4 basses and 7/8 size basses that feature a more traditional long 43" string length. For the highest possible quality instruments, I am able to hand select my inventory stock directly from the warehouse in Pomona. All instruments will receive a full setup by noted Sacramento luthier Jeff Sahs.

Here are the different Eastman lines I carry.

SAMUEL EASTMAN These are the introductory student models feature spirit varnishes, German tuners, and laminated backs and sides and either laminated or carved solid spruce tops. I'll be concentrating on carrying the carved Spruce top, or "hybrid" models, models 120 and 125. The base model is the Gamba shape, though the Busetto and Quenoil shapes are available for a slight upcharge. The Presto CB 50 cover is incldued.


Used VB80 3/4
All laminate body, Gold halfplate tuners, Ebony fingerboard and tailpiece, Amber - cinnamon color lacquer finish, Bridge adjusters. Dimensions are: Body length 43 1/2", Upper bout width 19", Center bout width 14", Lower bout width 26 1/8", Body depth at tail 8 1/4", Body depth at upper bout bend 7 3/4", Body depth at neck 6 1/4", String length 41 3/8". Full setup by Jeff Sahs. This is an easy-playing responsive entry level bass. with free cover.

VB125 Busetto 3/4
Fine grain Spruce top with hazel figure, Laminated back and sides with flame Maple outer ply, Gold halfplate tuners, Spirit varnish finish, Ebony fingerboard and tailpiece, Bridge adjusters added in setup by Jeff Sahs. Dimensions are: Top length 44 1/4", Upper bout width 18 3/4", Center bout width 13 3/4", Lower bout width 26 1/2", Body depth at tail 8 3/4", Body depth at upper bout bend 8", Body depth at neck 6 7/8", String length 41 1/2". This is a rich-sounding and easy playing jazz bass, also doubling for easy arco play. With free cover.

Samuel Eastman 125 model 7/8
Fine grain Spruce top, Flame figure laminated Maple sides and selled back, Gold and Chrome German halfplate tuners, Ebony fingerboard, Two piece Maple neck for added strength, bridge adjusters added. Dimentions are: Top length 45 1/2", Upper bout 19 1/2", Center bout 14 1/2", Lower bout 27 1/2", depth at tail 9", Depth at upper bout corner 8 1/2", Depth at neck 7", String length 43". With its large body and long string length, this bass has a huge sound for orchestra or jazz settings. I currently have it strung with Thomastic Belcanto strings for arco playing. With Presto CB 50 cover. Complete setup by Jeff Sahs.
 
VB125 Quenoil 3/4
Fine to medium grain Spruce top, Flame Maple laminate back and sides, Halfplate tuners, Two piece Maple neck, Ebony fingerboard, Wittner tailpiece, Eastman endpin, Adjustable bridge. Dimensions are: Top length 44 1/4", Upper bout width 18", Center bout width 14 1/4", Lower bout width 25 1/2", Depth at tail 9", Depth at upper boput bend 7 1/2", Depth at neck 6 3/8", String length 41 5/8". With the narrow Quenoil-style shoulders, this easy playng bass has very friendly access to the upper reaches of the fingerboard. I like it as a jazz bass, though the arco tone is singing and solid. ANDREAS EASTMAN These intermediate models feature spirit varnishes, German tuners, and all-solid Spruce and Maple construction.
- 200 models use plain figure Maple and use an amber color varnish. The only shape available is Gamba.
- 305 models use older woods with higher cosmetic grading. The varnish is a darker antique color. The standard shape is Gamba, but Violin corner, Busetto, and Quenoil patterns are also available for a slight upcharge.
- 605 models use older woods with the highest cosmetic grades of flame figure and even grain. The standard shape is Gamba, but Violin corner, Busetto, and Quenoil shapes are available for a slight upcharge. Presto CB 50 covers are included in the price.
